Water, hops and barley – that sounds pretty clean to me. A complex carb, right? Right.
OK, I know better, but over the holidays I allowed myself to relax the rules a little bit. I love baking sugar cookies and pound cake; eating holiday hors d’oeuvres and fried chicken, ribs and potato salad on Christmas Day; and yes, I truly enjoy a good glass of wine and ice cold beer.
Yesterday I watched Oprah openly reveal her fears and challenges with weight loss and thought it was one of the best shows that she’s done. She talked honestly about falling off of the wagon and being disappointed and embarrassed about her body. Hello. I don’t know many women – large or small – who can’t relate to that.
I think it’s wonderful that she put herself out there to show people that someone of her stature – with all of the money, power and fame – can still feel insecure and have slip ups. But even more importantly, one of the best messages I got from the show is that you can pick yourself up and get back on the wagon.
Every morning you wake up is a brand new day filled with brand new opportunities to do brand new things.
As I’ve shared before I’ve decided to make clean eating a priority in my life. While I enjoyed the holidays and all of its splendor – and beer, ahem – it’s time for me to get back on the wagon and continue on my quest for a healthy body.
How about you? It’s a brand new day, what brand new things are you going to do?

I went and read the other post and quite frankly I am crazing chocolate cake and beer right now. ; )
I am starting a weight loss program and first I am getting my butt moving and thinking about what I am eating. I am not trying to go too overboard with the eating restrictions just yet so I don't freak out and jump off the band wagon. However cake and beer are definitely low on my priority scale...
The holidays took a toll on my eating and workouts. I've got to get back on track. I told my wife that the food Nazi has returned.
Happy New Day! I don't have a weight issue, but I do try to exercise everyday for my health! I can do it, I can do it! One day at a time.
I watched the Oprah too and agree that it was one of her best! I love her and watch all her shows but it finally hit me that despite her fame and fortune, she is a real person with real issues. Her episode with Dr. Oz inspired me to start walking several times a week. I don't have a weight problem so I never thought I had to exercise but being close to 40 now, I know I need to bring healthy habits into my life before it's too late :-) I feel encouraged by a new year filled with so much hope and possibilities!
Thanks for the comments, people!
WHM - sorry to pass along the cravings - just say no! :)
Mocha Dad - Husband used to be the food Nazi in my house. Now we've switched places. I'm working on him though!
MOMSWEB & Melissa - I'm glad to hear that health, not weight, is your main reason to exercise. What great examples you both are setting - smiles!
