Mama's Boy

Friday’s confession…

I absolutely, positively, 100 percent, emphatically believe that I’ve been blessed with the best son ever. I know every mother… well… most mothers think that their child is the most wonderful child in the world, but I truly believe it.

It was seven years ago today that my little boy was born. I could write for hours about how special he is and how much joy he’s brought to my life but I’ve got a cake to bake, balloons to pick up and last minute party plans to finish… so I’ll just share a few pictures instead.

Miles' actual birthday.

He's too sweet to be the grinch!

Taking care of baby sister.

The day he lost his first tooth.

My number one big boy!

Happy Birthday, Miles! Mommy loves you…

Pretty Panties

It’s Hump Day at Wifey’s House, the one day a week I dish about sex.

This week I just want to make sure you're aware that the infamous Semi-annual Sale is happening at Victoria’s Secret. Nope, I’m not on the payroll, I just believe in the power of pretty panties.

You’ll have to take it from there…

Wedding Love

Husband and I are back from the wedding (he was an usher in his cousin’s wedding on Saturday so we got to have a quick little get-away weekend). The weekend flew by, but it was nice to spend some alone time with Husband – even if it was with 100 family members and friends.

The wedding was beautiful. Everything from the bride to the service to the yummy little crab cake hors d’oeuvres. I just love a good wedding. The love, the romance, the excitement and doing the electric slide – it’s just such a fun time.

But, my favorite part about weddings are the vows, when two people stand before God and make a commitment to love, honor and cherish each other for the rest of their lives. So often people get caught up in the whirlwind of the “wedding” and miss the most important part – the actual marriage ceremony. Watching two people pledge their love and lives to each other always makes me nostalgic, taking me right back to that wonderful day when Husband and I said “I do.” I just love it.

How about you? What is your favorite part about weddings? Sentimental wives want to know…

Planes, Trains and ... the Dog?

Friday’s confession…

Husband and I are going to an adult wedding this weekend. I love a good wedding, especially when I get to go act like an adult.

So, in all of my excitement I diligently made plans and handled all of the important details for the weekend like making sure the kids are taken care of, that all of the travel arrangements were done, finding just the right outfit to make me look fabulous while hiding the extra pounds I’m still trying to work off, and even picking up quart size plastic bags for the liquids in our carry-on bags.

Yeah, I was feeling pretty good about myself until around 4:55 p.m. yesterday afternoon when I went to feed the dog.

Oh, *%$#! The dog! Yes, I forgot to make arrangements for my Nina. Damn. It’s a quick trip, but she’s still got to eat, pee and poop! So, at five of five yesterday afternoon I frantically searched for a reputable vet to board my dog since our regular vet, and almost every other one, was full because of the Memorial Day Weekend.

I finally found a great place for her to go and made arrangements for her to get pampered while she’s there – she’s going to get a bath and her nails done!

Problem solved and she’s none the wiser. You would think she would be the first one in the house that I would look out for since she’s the only one who listens and doesn’t talk back.

My Nina pie!

The Sexiest Thing About Your Husband

It’s Hump Day at Wifey’s House, the one day a week I dish about sex. This week I have a question and assignment for you…

What’s the sexiest thing about your husband? And, when was the last time you told or showed him how much you like it?

Yes, once we’ve been carried over the threshold and have settled nicely into married life, many couples relax a little bit, letting their guard down and their flaws show. Even though we see each other in some less than desirable ways – hopefully he’s a shut-the-door and use-plenty-of-air-freshener kind of guy – it’s still important to keep things fresh and sexy, at least some of the time.

What is it about your husband that turns you on? Is it the way he kisses you on the forehead every morning; or the touch of his hand when he strokes your hair; or maybe the way he looks after a long, sweaty workout – exercise, of course!

This week rediscover that thing that you can’t resist about your husband and let him know how much you like it.

Mother's Day is Over

Riding home from Miles’ team pizza party last night I told little girl that she had to go first in the bath. She replied…

“Why can’t we flip a coin and then I can say ‘heads’ and we can see who goes first from there?”

“Because it would be helpful to mommy if you just went first tonight.”

“But mama, it’s NOT Mother’s Day!”

See what I’m working with here…

Baseball, Books & Ballet

It was a busy weekend at Wifey’s House. First, on Saturday morning, Miles’ had closing ceremonies at his baseball park. He went home with two trophies – one for participating and one because his team took third place in the T-Ball division. Yay! That also ended my Team Mom responsibilities – whoo hoo... ahem... I mean, it’s been a wonderful season and I’m so grateful to have had this opportunity.

Miles and me – celebrating a winning season!

Next, my sister hosted a little soiree for me on Saturday afternoon to celebrate the launch of my new book, Help! I’m a Newlywed…What Do I Do Now? Wife-Saving Advice Every New Bride Must Know to Survive the First Year of Marriage. It was fun to share my joy with some of my closest friends and family; and to sign and sell a few books, too!

Me at my book soiree, signing away.

And, last but not least, little ballerina girl had her dance recital on Sunday afternoon. What can I say, but she was absolutely priceless. I’m not sure that any of the eight girls in her class made one move on point or at the same time, but they were just as perfect as they could be – and loving every minute of it!

Did you see me mama?! Did you see me on the big stage?!

Oh, I saw my little diva in the making. And, couldn’t be prouder…

Little ballerina girl, showing off her trophy, too!

New/Old Kids on the Block

Friday’s confession …

OK, I admit it, I DVR’d The Today Show this morning ‘cause I just had to see the New Kids on the Block reunion. No, I’m not necessarily a fan, but curiosity was killing me. At the risk of dating myself, I’m from the 80’s era and I still cannot believe the amount of people that took over Rockefeller Plaza in New York to see them perform.

Wow. They actually pulled it off.

What’s next? Are we going to bring back thick leg warmers and re-release The Breakfast Club?

You gotta love it...

Are You Smarter Than A First Grader, Part II?

Apparently, Wifey is!

I got a 98, ahem, I mean Miles got a 98 on his homework that sparked the first Are You Smarter Than A First Grader? earlier this week. I couldn’t resist sharing my vindication.

Maybe there’s hope for me yet…

Sexy Summer Feet

It’s Hump Day at Wifey’s House, the day that I post something about sex to keep it fresh on our minds and in our relationships. Today I’m going out on a limb – literally – (yes, pun intend) and am talking about feet. No, I don’t have a foot fetish, but there is something about getting a good pedicure that makes me feel sexy.

Now that the weather is getting warmer it’s time to break out those pretty summer sandals and to pay a little more attention to our feet. Let’s face it, while men are not that into details, they don’t want their wife to have hammer toes! Getting or giving yourself a pedicure can add a little pep in your step (OK, I know I went too far with that one) and give your self-esteem a little boost. While feet are arguably not the best looking part of our bodies, soft, smooth painted toes and a fabulous pair of flip flops can really make them sexy.

So, busy wives and mommies, this week go get your feet done. Treat yourself to a trip to the salon; or splurge on a new color and do them yourself. Then break out those pretty sandals, or better yet play footsie with your husband – they’ll probably look even better next to his – and enjoy what happens next!

Are You Smarter Than A First Grader?

Apparently, Wifey is not.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day. I did until I sat down with Miles at 7 p.m. last night to finish his homework – yes I waited until the last minute, and yes I paid for it dearly.

He had eight questions to answer about the city and state where we live. Without boring you – and embarrassing myself – with the details, let’s just say I got stuck on question four and it went downhill from there.

After taking two hours to do what should’ve taken 30 minutes, I finally, I mean Miles finally finished his homework and went to bed. Once the frustration settled, I ruled out a conspiracy theory and decided that I was just tired from a long weekend and that my mind wasn’t working at full speed. I graduated with honors from college; I must be smarter than a first grader right?

How about you? Have you ever gotten stumped with your child’s homework? Smart moms want to know…

My Lip Gloss is Poppin'

Friday’s confession…

On Sunday I rushed out of the house so quickly that I forgot to put my lip gloss on. On the way to the Braves game I searched through my purse and came up with nothing except Milan’s play strawberry lip gloss.

Yes, I put it on and rocked it like it was my $12 tube. My lips were a bit sticky – and sweet – but nobody knew the difference.

Hmm… maybe I’ve been paying too much for my lip gloss…

Nine Long, Nine Strong

It was nine years ago today that Wifey married Husband in heartfelt ceremony in front of approximately 150 of our closest family and friends at a beautiful church in Atlanta, Georgia. Thousands more witnessed it if you count the many times our wedding aired on The Learning Channel’s “A Wedding Story.”

I loved my wedding day. Not only did I marry the love of my life, but we had so much fun doing it. It truly was an extraordinary day.

Nine years later, I’m so blessed to say that Husband and I are still just as happy if not, more so than on that glorious day. We’ve been through ups, downs, joys, pains, and have always come through stronger than before. I’ve seen us both grow in so many ways, and I’m so proud of the couple, and the people, that we’ve become.

Here’s to celebrating my anniversary, my marriage and my favorite husband … Napoleon.

Married a Long Time

A little mindless Hump Day humor...

There was a new bride who was embarrassed to be known as a honeymooner and felt like everyone knew she was about to have sex. So when she and her husband pulled up to the hotel, she asked him if there was any way that they could make it appear that they had been married a long time.

"Sure,” he responded, “You carry the suitcases."

Ha.

Why Are YOU So Mean to Me?

I love my baby girl. I just love her so much… but man she caused a ruckus in Wifey’s House yesterday. I don’t understand how one adorable, little four-year-old princess can be sweet as pie one minute, and then turn on you instantly.

“Why are YOU so mean to me?”

Yup, that would be Milan, questioning me intently, while crying hysterically. Right. Like I made her totally ignore me at Miles tennis lessons, run onto the court and ask the coach for a sticker. I understand the fascination four-year-old girls have with stickers, so I told her to come here and I would make sure she got a special sticker when we got home. Gosh, I’m mean. Yeah. It’s my fault that she didn’t listen when I told her to get off of the court and to come over to me. Yup, that was exactly what I wanted to happen in the middle of the tennis center, while everyone was watching my child try to see how far she can push me. Just as I started to feel like the crazy lady in the store again, she finally walked, correction, stormed off of the court, ran down the sidewalk then crouched down into the proper pouting position. After stomping her feet and giving me the I-hate-you-stare-down, she stopped on the sidewalk directly in front of the car and folded her arms across her chest. Oh no, just wait, it gets better…

Miles saw trouble coming and got in the car quickly to watch it unfold. I looked at her sternly and told her to get in the car. She stood there, lips poked out, still giving me the ice-cold stare-down.

Are you kidding? My four-year-old daughter is playing chicken with me. So I did what anyone who wants to pretend like they have some semblance of control would do… I called her bluff.

I opened my door and looked at her.

She didn’t move.

I got in and closed my door.

Not a flinch.

I strapped on my seat belt.

Damn, she didn’t budge. This girl is good. I actually started to get a little nervous that I was going to have to fold and go get her until I put the key in the ignition and turned on the car …

Vroom…

Next thing I knew, a little blonde blur whizzed by, hopped in the car and was strapped into her booster seat.

Chalk one up for Wifey.

OK, I can admit it, I’m a softy and I told her immediately that there is NO WAY I would ever leave her anywhere, but, I also told her that her behavior was unacceptable and she had to go to bed for the rest of the night. To which she responded…

“Why are YOU so mean to me?”

Yup, here we go again.

Notice the emphasis on you. What sucks is I’m really not mean. In fact, I’m way too lenient, which is probably why she thinks she could get away with something like that in the first place. I’ve got a firecracker on my hands. While I love her independence and determination, she still needs to learn boundaries and how to channel it.

Did I mention she’s only four? Something tells me I should be afraid… very afraid. How about you? Are you as mean as Wifey? Have your children blamed you for not having enough stickers, for Greg leaving The Wiggles or any other major catastrophes they’ve recently faced. Mean mommies want to know…

Wifey

Whirlwind Weekend

Wow. The past few days have been a bit of a whirlwind.

It started on Friday night when Miles had a T-ball game. After that we went out to Taco Mac (Husband and Miles’ favorite wings spot) to celebrate winning the game and that Miles is on the Principal’s List this quarter at school. It had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I wasn’t cooking dinner that night – ahem – really.

Saturday morning, Milan had to be at her dance school for recital rehearsal from 9 a.m. to noon. We scooped her up at 12 p.m. and headed straight to the park for yet another T-ball game. Did I mention it was raining? Yes, they made them play in the rain. It was a light rain, but it was raining none the less. From there, I darted off to my game – or match to be more accurate. My tennis team made the playoffs and round one was this past Saturday. We all played great, but my team didn’t win enough matches to move on. But… at least the sun came out. From there we headed home, freshened up, and then Husband and I hurried out the door to catch a 7:30 p.m. movie – Iron Man. It was the bomb – no pun intended.

Sunday was just as busy. It was Atlanta Braves day for Miles’ baseball park, so all of the teams got to parade around the field just before the Braves played. It was Miles’ first time going to a professional baseball game and he absolutely loved it. Husband, Milan, my dad and my mother-in-law also came out for the fun. Milan had a ball, although she cared less about the baseball game and more about the pretzels, cotton candy and icees. It was an exciting and very expensive day. We had to have spent at least the entire week’s grocery budget in one day, but I won’t go there… that’s another whole post.

Miles and his $8 foam finger.

Milan hailing down the cotton candy man.

We were at the game all day then took Miles to his first football practice. The season doesn’t officially start until August, but the team has started doing conditioning exercises every other Sunday. That, too, is another story that I’m sure I’ll post about – soon! We ended up home around 8:00 p.m. – the kids’ bedtime – and didn’t get everyone fed, bathed and tucked into bed until around 9:30 p.m. I don’t think I made it past 9:35 p.m.

I never thought I would look forward to a Monday morning. Whew. Am I the only one who needs a weekend to recover from my weekend?

Three Is a Magic Number

Friday’s confession…

I had three birthday cakes … on three different days … approximately three pieces of each … resulting in 3.3 pounds gained.

Yikes!

Note to self, add three extra workouts over the next three weeks!
